The popular “Mardi Himal Trekking” is a newly opened route and a hidden treasure in the Annapurna region. This trek is the best destination to avoid the crowds. Mardi Himal trek offers stunning views of Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchre and Manaslu ranges. Mardi Himal base camp, hot springs in Jhinu, and Ghandruk village is the major attraction of this trek. The trek starts in Kande just after a one hour drive from Pokhara.
The trail is first going slowly up, then a bit steeper to Australian Camp (2060m.). Then after one hour, slightly downhill to Pothana (1,950m.) and again up to Deurali (2100m). Following a sign in Deurali sign saying “Forest Camp”. The trail is first going through jungle then undulating on the top of a ridge. There is a section just after reaching half way where the trail drops steeply and then slowly gains height and turns back onto the ridge and to Forest Camp (2,600m.) The trail is initially quite steep leaving Forest Camp but soon gets leveled as you again get up to the ridge.
The trail leaves Low Camp again in jungle, but the trees soon start getting smaller and after about one hour of trekking onto the open ridge with spectacular views of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South. It is possible to continue trekking along the ridge for another 4 to 5 hours to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m.) and return to High Camp in around 4 hours. This makes a long day but there is also a viewpoint about half way. After that, we return all the way down to Forest camp.
When we arrive to Forest Camp, we walk to Natural Jhinu Hot spring where you can explore and bath in natural hot spring. After this, you will end your trek at Nayapul via Ghandruk village which is one of the most popular Gurung villages in this region.
